X Clipboard status

When I started up X windows, got two messages at the end saying

winProcSetSelectionOwner - Clipboard not yet started, aborting.

It's not clear whether the clipboard is working properly or not. I successfully used cut-and-paste from an emacs window on denali (under X), to an emacs running locally under Windows, and back again.
